The Surprise Fire-Medical Department is bringing life-saving knowledge and training to the community through safety classes on the first Friday of each month.
These classes aim to provide attendees with basic emergency response training in a comfortable and stress-free environment so community members will know how to start helping while waiting for emergency crews in a life-threatening situation.
Two different classes are offered throughout the year:
• Stop the bleed and Narcan classes — Participants will learn the basic skills needed to save someone in the event of a deep-penetrating injury and the proper technique needed to deliver Narcan. This class is offered on the first Friday of each odd-numbered month (January, March, May, July, September and November).
• Hands-Only CPR and AED classes — In this non-certifying class, participants will learn the basics of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, including chest compressions, Automated External Defibrillator use and rescue breathing. This class is offered on the first Friday of each even-numbered month (February, April, June, August, October and December).
All classes start at 4 p.m. in the Public Safety Building Auditorium, 14250 W. Statler Plaza, Suite 101.
Pre-registration is required and can be accessed at surpriseaz.gov/FireFirstFridays.
The maximum class size is 40 people for each session. Participants must be 12 years old or older, and a registered adult must accompany attendees aged 12 to 17.
