Sun City NSDAR chapter challenges Surprise students

A special contest was held Sept. 17, National U.S. Constitution Day, at Canyon Ridge Elementary School in Surprise.

The junior high students were assigned to choose an American founding father or Revolutionary War patriot, then Sun City National Society Daughters of the American Revolution Agua Fria Chapter Regent Peggy Robbins, Treasurer Jane Woehrle and newsletter editor Mary Hart, as well as West Valley Sons of the American Revolution Saguaro Chapter members Edward Dalley, Mike Fisch and Don Dedrick interviewed students.

Students had to dress in costume, have a deep understanding of their character, make eye contact when being interviewed and share information about their character by answering all types of questions. It took about four hours to interview 131 students. After making very difficult decisions, the interviewers chose three winners.

The Agua Fria DAR Chapter gave first, second and third place gift cards to the winners of the contest. Agua Fria and Saguaro Chapter members also passed out U.S flags to all the students.
