Surprise Police arrested a 14-year-old student for a violent threat towards Valley Vista High School on Tuesday, the second time this month a student has been arrested for making a threat at the school.

Authorities said school staff and the school resource officer assigned to Valley Vista aided police in taking the student into custody without incident.

The student was not armed and there is no threat to the school or the surrounding community.

Police said the student admitted to making the violent threats.

The student was booked into the Durango Juvenile Detention Center for making a terroristic threat, which is a Class 3 felony, and disorderly conduct, a Class 1 misdemeanor.

“Once again, we thank the brave students who spoke up to protect their school," Police Chief Benny Piña said in a statement. "We want to remind students, parents and community members that threats of violence toward our schools will not be tolerated."

Another student was arrested Sept. 9 after making an online threat toward the school on a dare.

Anyone with additional information regarding the latest incident is asked to contact the Surprise Police Department at 623-222-4000 or 623-222-TIPS (8477), or email crimetips@surpriseaz.gov.
