Stangl: QCUSD board should ‘condemn’ Knox’s behavior

Posted

I have several questions. First, how did someone like James Knox get elected to the school board? His own children are not even in the school district but are home schooled, and judging by his caviler remarks, he is tone deaf to his poor choices and behavior on social media.

Second, how is it possible that QCUSD has no policy in place to remove a board member who shows not only poor judgment but sets a terrible example for school children? Even members of Congress can be censured or removed from office.

Furthermore, it is hard to believe that board members are not prohibited, or at best, encouraged to refrain from posting on social media. Most businesses and government agencies have policies about engaging on social media platforms. Public officials have a greater burden to be diligent when it comes to responsible speech. Clearly, Mr. Knox believes he should not be held to the highest of standards as an official on the Queen Creek School board and is clueless as to why his sophomoric posts are unprofessional.

Every school board member should condemn Knox's poor behavior instead of making excuses.
