Thompson: Queen Creek school board candidate endorsement ‘overstated’

Posted

As a newly retired teacher from QCUSD, I feel it is important to make sure the Queen Creek community is informed with honest information before voting on who will represent us on our school board. David Dehority and Heidi Lee have signs stating they are “Teacher Endorsed.” That is overstated and an untrue representation of the teachers in our district. The endorsement is directly from the “Teachers Union/Association.”QCUSD has around 900 teachers and less than 100 are union members.

Let me remind you that it was the teacher’s union/association that fought to keep our children home during COVID. Our school board, with Jennifer Revolt’s lead, fought to get our kids back in the classroom. We were the first district in the nation to return to in-person learning during COVID. Thank you QCUSD 2020 board members, including Samantha Davis, who also currently serves on the board. Matt Riffey and Patty Campbell, along with Revolt and Davis ,also voted to remove masks as soon as legally allowed.

Jennifer Revolt, Patti Campbell, and Matt Riffey are running for re-election to our QCUSD school board. These candidates have not only led our district, they are part of our community. Their children have been, or are currently part of, our school district. They are regularly seen interacting with teachers and students at sporting events, concerts, plays and school assemblies. These candidates truly care about our schools and community. I am particularly impressed by their efforts to engage with the community through events like the Business Partner Breakfast and community and family engagement events. These initiatives not only strengthen the bond between the schools and the community but also provide invaluable opportunities for our students to grow and succeed. Their thoughtful planning and transparent communication have ensured that our students continue to receive a high-quality education in a safe environment.

I would also like to express how grateful I am for our QCUSD administrative leadership. Dr. Perry Berry, along with the rest of the QCUSD leadership team, have led our district with wisdom, love and integrity. Dr. Berry is part of our community. He had three children graduate from Queen Creek High School and has one child still attending. He, like our three board candidates, is part of this community. All of our administrators celebrate our teachers and students and want to see them succeed.

As a member of this community who cares about Queen Creek, I would like to endorse and encourage all of your readers to vote for Jennifer Revolt, Patti Campbell and Matt Riffey for Queen Creek school board. These candidates are vested in the community, focused on continuous improvement, transparent and fiscally responsible. Please let them continue to lead this wonderful “A Rated” school district by giving them your vote.
