Whitfield: Trump, Vance words are bullets to most who hear, read them

Since I have a lot of time on my hands right now, recovering from a fractured T-12 vertebrae and being retired, my attention has focused on reading all different sources regarding this presidential election.
Some might recall I wrote in this paper about six months ago I was in favor of a woman president. As it turns out, my wish might come true since my birthday is Nov. 4.
However, what puzzles me most when I hear or read people want Mr. Trump because between 2016 and 2020, the country enjoyed stimulus checks (as did I), grocery and gas prices were lower.
But to equate today's economy and world events to that time frame is like comparing apples to oranges. It is a false comparison. No one is to be blamed for higher prices except the companies who charge for their products.
Also, human beings have a right to change their minds about how they think. Each candidate has changed what they said years ago, but who hasn't? Are each of you the same person you were in 2016 to 2020? Be honest, no you are not. Each of us is not perfect, either.
Remember, the border issue and immigration have been a source of dispute for decades. Congress had failed to act with many other presidents, but when they tried this year, Mr. Trump wanted his wishes above this country's best interests.
Thankfully, he has survived two attempts on his life; however, the words he speaks and writes and that of JD Vance are really bullets to most everyone who hears/reads them.
How can you not be affected by all hateful speech?
When someone does not respect others, and seeks revenge if they do not get their way, that person does not deserve to be president of our United States. Regardless of whom you choose, register to vote! Thank you.
