Goodfellow: Not expected in Sun City

Posted

I am new to Sun City and thought that this was a welcoming community. At least the people and the activities I have attended thus far have been.

Imagine my surprise and sadness when I arrived home this Saturday to find a fake Christmas tree with broken ornaments on it lying in my driveway so I could not access my garage without getting out of the car, moving the tree and cleaning up the broken glass.

Yes, I am Jewish and have a Shalom sign in front of my house. For the people who threw the tree in my driveway, Shalom means peace and hello in Hebrew. Jesus was a Jew who started the Christian philosophy of love thy neighbor, or did you forget?

It just so happens that I also celebrate Christmas because it is a holiday of love and celebration. I also happen to be a Jewish chaplain. So, it goes without saying, but I will say it, think before you act and if you can’t do that, don’t judge a book by its cover.
