Leonard (Len) James Wicketts, Jr.

Posted

Leonard (Len) James Wicketts, Jr., 86, of Sun City, AZ, died May 30, 2024, with his loving family at his bedside.
Born in Marquette, MI, he and wife, Sally, married in 1957 and remained married for over 67 wonderful years. Moving to Albuquerque, Len worked mostly in furniture sales. A natural salesman with an outgoing personality, Len thoroughly enjoyed meeting people and loved mentoring other salespeople. The furniture business led him to Gallup, NM, where he and his brother, George, opened L&G Home Furnishings. From Gallup, Len and Sally relocated to Tempe, AZ; Aurora, CO; and Seattle, WA, finally settling in Sun City, AZ, where he worked at Pruitt’s Furniture. Retiring in 2015, Len worked part-time at the Quail Run golf course – a job he loved because of the interaction with other golfers.
A great storyteller, Len regaled his friends and family with stories of his time growing up in Marquette or his most recent softball (a Sun City Softball Hall of Fame member), golf (a hole in one!), or bowling feat – turning even the most mundane occurrence into something funny or interesting. Known as the “candy man” by his softball and bowling friends because he always had a cooler full of chocolate bars, his sense of humor and desire to always be doing something made him a joy to be around.
Len was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend – we grieve his worldly absence but take heart knowing he continues to be with us in spirit and through his offspring.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Leonard, Sr., and Gladys (Burns) of Grants, NM; and his brothers, George (Bonnie) of Albuquerque, NM, and Jon (Dee) of Reserve, NM. He is survived by his wife, Sally (Greene); sister, Barbara Graeme of Belen, NM; daughters Tammy (Dale) Bolduc and Wendy (Ron) Baca of Sun City, AZ; and sons Rhett (Kim) of Albuquerque, NM and Greg (Rebecca) of San Antonio, TX. Len is a grandfather of 11 and great-grandfather of 21.
Len’s memorial service will be 11:00am Monday, July 1st, 2024, at Sunland Memorial Park in Sun City, AZ. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to AZK9 Rescue: https://www.azk9.org/donate
