A car crashed into a power pole and caught fire Friday, killing its driver, Phoenix police said.

The collision occurred about 1:35 a.m. June 28 near 60th Street and Van Buren. A preliminary investigation indicates the driver was going west on Van Buren, struck the north curb, causing the vehicle to leave the road and collide with a power pole, police said.

After rolling into the desert, the car caught fire, which was put out by firefighters.

The Office of the Medical Examiner responded to identify the driver and investigate the cause of death, police said.
