Arizona chamber supports passage of general plan amendments in Peoria

Posted

I am writing on behalf of the Arizona Chamber of Commerce & Industry to express our support for the amendments to the Peoria general plan, particularly the smart growth element and the introduction of a new land use category for state-owned lands.

The city of Peoria has long recognized the importance of balancing residential growth with economic development, and these amendments will play a key role in achieving that balance. By prioritizing development in strategic areas, Peoria will attract new businesses, create jobs, and generate much-needed tax revenue for vital city services and infrastructure. This approach will also reduce the need for residents to commute outside the city for work, benefiting local businesses and contributing to a more robust and self-sustaining economy.

The focus on areas like the Loop 303 and Lake Pleasant Parkway corridors is particularly significant. These regions hold enormous potential to become hubs for industry and innovation, and the partnership between the city and the Arizona State Land Department is a critical step toward unlocking this potential. A coordinated master plan will ensure that growth in these areas is not only responsible but also maximizes long-term economic benefits for both businesses and residents.

These amendments align with the chamber’s mission of fostering a pro-business environment by simplifying the path to development and ensuring Peoria has the infrastructure to accommodate new commercial investments. This approach ensures that the city remains competitive, attracting businesses that will drive economic growth and create opportunities for the community.

We thank the Peoria City Council for approving these amendments, which we believe will help position the city for long-term economic success and provide a roadmap for thoughtful, sustainable development that benefits both current and future residents and businesses.
