Local nonprofit Waste Not is teaming up with Arizona State University and the Swette Center for Sustainable Food Systems to host the first-ever Waste Not and ASU workshop.
On Aug. 16, attendees can enjoy this free and open to the public workshop that will focus on tips and tricks for reducing waste and being more sustainable, a press release explained.
The Waste Not ASU workshop will include a lecture style Q&A featuring five speakers who will share success stories in previous research studies and local programs that have applied innovative approaches to decrease food waste the household and retail level.
Speakers will include representatives from ASU, Waste Not, Atlasta Catering, R City and Mill. Attendees will learn about simple food waste prevention strategies that can easily be applied at home, businesses and academic events, according to the release.
Arizona is known as the worst offender for food waste, throwing away $9.5 billion in food every year. When food is wasted so are the resources that went into producing, packaging, preparing and acquiring that food, the release stated.
