Adams: Checking in with Councilmember Jennifer Adams

Posted

With the sort of record-breaking heat we've had this summer, I couldn't be more proud of the work we've done here in the city of Tempe to increase access to cooling centers for our most vulnerable populations and to provide the sort of community spaces we need to survive the summers here in Arizona.

One of those community spaces is the brand new Clark Park Community Center and Pool. As a former lifeguard, I know how important it is for everyone to have the chance to learn to swim. When I joined city council in 2018, one of the first things I did was to advocate for bringing a community pool back to Clark Park.

We celebrated the grand opening of this brand new, state-of-the-art pool and facility in April, and more than 3,000 visitors were welcomed at the pool this summer. These patrons participated in lifesaving swim lessons and water-based fitness classes, in addition to playing in the pool and riding down the water slide.

And while the presence of this new pool in Tempe will literally save lives, Clark Park isn't just a pool — it's also a vibrant community center that offers a variety of programming and activities, as well as being a destination for the local community to host meetings, clubs and events.

We also just celebrated the grand opening of the new EnVision Center at Apache and Dorsey, which will serve as a community resilience hub offering programs, services and resources that will enhance the quality of life for residents in the area.

We were proud to partner with the Institute for Digital Inclusion Acceleration to host one of their "Hives" at the EnVision Center. The Hive will offer free access to technology for the Tempe community, plus free workshops, camps, and classes to help develop the digital skills necessary in today's fast-moving world..

If you ever have any questions or concerns I would love to hear from you, and welcome your phone calls and emails.

Fixing issues for our residents is my passion, when it's within my ability to do so. Please do not hesitate to reach out at any time.
