Brian Lunn, a lifelong resident of Surprise, recently completed his final year at the West Point Military Academy in New York, receiving numerous awards during his four years at West Point.

Lunn was designated as a distinguished cadet graduate by ranking scholastically in the upper 3% of his class of 1,046 cadets. As a distinguished cadet, Lunn had the honor of receiving his diploma directly from the president of the United States, whom officiated the graduation ceremony on May 25.

Lunn studied chemistry and nuclear engineering as his major over the four years he attended the academy, receiving several Superintendent’s Distinguished Cadet awards.

He was also a member of the Phi Kappa Phi Society’s Platinum Chapter as well as being awarded a fourth degree status in the Knights of Columbus. Additionally, he is a graduate of the Army’s Air Assault program. During his final semester at West Point, Lunn was appointed as the commander of his company.

Lunn graduated the U.S. Military Academy with the rank of Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army and will complete his five-year military obligation at Fort Carson, Colorado.

Prior to receiving his appointment to the academy, Lunn attended all four of his high school years in the Dysart Unified School District at Valley Vista High School, graduating with honors in the top 1% of his class in 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic.

He was the president of the National Honor Society his senior year in high school as well as the captain of the school’s swim team.
