As we get closer to the cooler weather, I am looking forward to the upcoming events our city offers. Take a moment to find details on community meetings, current events and upcoming programming. Thank you for taking time to read my newsletter.

CURRENT EVENTS

City Council Meetings

The next City Council Meetings are on September 3 and 17 at 6 p.m. The public is welcome to attend in person, or you can tune in on surpriseaz.gov/SurpriseTV, the Surprise City Gov Facebook page at facebook.com/CityOfSurprise or on Cox channel 11.

Upcoming Blood Drive

The City of Surprise is partnering with Vitalant Blood Donation to host several blood drives in September.

Community members wanting to participate are encouraged to make an appointment through the Vitalant website using Blood Drive Code p1T62. Although walk-ins are welcomed, those with an appointment will be given priority.

Blood Drive Events:

  • September 20 | 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.| Surprise Regional Library (Program Room)
  • September 20 | 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.| Asante Library
  • September 23 | 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.| Surprise City Hall (Community Room)

As a thank you for your willingness to help others through blood donation, Vitalant is providing a Halloween costume t-shirt through their Donor Rewards program while supplies last.

As a local non-profit, donations through Vitalant stay in the community to help our neighbors. Every day, an average of 5,500 blood donations are needed to meet patient needs. This is an excellent opportunity to transform your life and the lives of so many others!

The community is encouraged to join us on Saturday, September 14, from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. at Surprise Regional Library, 16089 N. For this event, our Human Service & Community Vitality Department is partnering with Just Serve to host a project supporting our troops serving overseas. Volunteers will have an opportunity to assemble care packages, write letters to the troops and decorate the boxes in which the care packages are being sent. Additionally, volunteers can also help assemble feminine hygiene kits for the non-profit organization Women4Women.

How to get involved: Individuals and groups of up to 10 people can register for this event at surpriseaz.gov/DOSVolunteer.
