Guest Commentary: Safe travels for Sun City West winter visitors

Posted

Many of the Sun City West winter visitors have already flown home and others are getting set for the drive or flight home.

We have gotten through our first full season for winter visitors since COVID-19 arrived in the United States. As you may recall, it was in mid-March of last year that things started shutting down in our community and across the state and country. Spring training stopped March 12 and then pro sports shut down around the country.

What a difference a year makes is not only cliche, it is true of the 2021 season here. Although there were restrictions on attendance, Spring training was back and over the course of time, people were able to go back to indoor dining, movies and other places, also with certain restrictions in place.

Take note on the efforts made by the Recreation Centers of Sun City West to how quickly officials shut down the various rec centers and then gradually reopened them.

We owe a great deal of thanks to the people who helped administer the COVID-19 vaccines. We owe a great deal of thanks to all of our first responders and hospital staff who worked endlessly long hours in the battle of our lifetime. They put their own lives at risk in order to help us and that can’t be forgotten, nor should it be taken for granted.

It is because of all these efforts that we must continue to do all we can to stay healthy and safe. Our own individual actions impact the lives of those we come in contact with.

For those hitting the road or catching a flight to your other place of residence, travel safe, have a great and healthy summer and look forward to another season in Sun City West.
