With the only open seat among the congressional delegation this fall, a number of Republicans have lined up to represent the 8th Congressional District.
Candidates Ben Toma, Blake Masters, Abe Hamadeh, Anthony Kern, and Pat Briody will be on the stage Tuesday night to discuss issues in the predominantly Republican district that comprises parts of Phoenix, Glendale, Peoria and the Sun Cities.
The hour-long debate will start at 6 p.m. Given the makeup of the district, it is likely whoever wins the Republican primary would be elected to Congress in the general election.
Masters and Hamadeh ran unsuccessfully for U.S. Senate and Arizona Attorney General, respectively, during 2022. Though neither had a history in the district, both submitted paperwork to run.
Toma currently serves as Speaker of the House in the Arizona Legislature, and Kern is also a House member.
