Turk: Only wants Sun City guest policy changed

Posted

I believe the letter (“Restrictions should stay in place,” Sun City Independent, March 3, 2021) was directed at me so I feel compelled to respond.

There appears to be some confusion over what I was requesting. The request was not to change the current policy, only lift the “temporary restriction” not allowing a Sun City card-holding member to have a visitor/guest accompany them in the park.  That restriction was put in place for all our activities when the virus hit and was meant to be temporary. Pre-virus we were allowed to take a visitor/guest with us in any Sun City activity, including in the park to walk, fish or play mini-golf if we were Sun City card-holding members.

Since the “temporary restriction” is lifted for golfers to take visitors/guests on our private golf courses, precedent was set and in all fairness the “temporary restriction” should be lifted for our Sun City members to take a visitor/guest in the park. We, too, are homeowners and pay the same annual dues as every card-holding member. And yes, I do agree with you on paying guest fees (and we always paid in the past whenever we took guests visitors in the park, fishing, golfing and other activities). Those fees bring added revenue to help maintain activities.

We, too, want nice amenities! It’s a shame there are a few who cause destruction but we shouldn’t punish our community members because of them. Reminds me of school days when “some” teachers would keep the whole class in due to a couple disruptive students. The park is gated and monitored until closing time. If there is destruction after hours, it certainly is not related to card-holding members having a visiting guest accompany them.

While we don’t all think alike or agree, I’m not looking through tunnel vision nor with a narrow mind. I, as well as others, am concerned about our community members as a whole. Since the coronavirus hit more than a year ago, there has been an upswing in emotional problems, depression, suicides, etc. If a card-holding member finds some comfort and safety in the ability to stroll the park, fish or play mini-golf with a friend who may not live in the Sun City limits, let’s support him or her. We need to be there for each other during this stressful time and not live in a bubble. Make no mistake, we want visitors — and potential new homeowners as well — to see a friendly, helpful and caring community and all that Sun City has to offer.

This request was simple, not to make a mountain out of a molehill! Since the “temporary restriction”  is lifted for our golfers, the precedent was set and in all fairness should be lifted for the park, which is another “open air” outside activity. It seems time to review the “temporary restrictions” to see which ones can now be lifted.

In closing, the standard was previously set when the restriction was lifted allowing Sun City golfers to take guests/visitors. We’re only asking for the same consideration at the park.
