Sun City West church slates patriotic choir musical, indoor picnic

Posted

“America, Keep Singing” will be presented 5 p.m. Sunday, June 30, by the Sanctuary Choir at First Baptist Church, 17419 N. Conquistador Drive.

The patriotic musical will include familiar patriotic songs such as “My Country ‘Tis of Thee” along with newly composed selections like “Statue of Liberty” combined with “America, the Beautiful.”

Creators Dennis and Nan Allen in the foreword to the musical wrote, “America has always had a song. The first settlers brought tunes and lyrics with them from their native lands.” These eventually evolved into cries for freedom and battle hymns for America. “Through the years,” they continued, “our nation has been tested and challenged … but we have not lost our song.”

Directing the musical will be Nancy Jakes, minister of worship at First Baptist, and Dr. Kirby Kennedy, senior pastor, will narrate.

“Our choir has worked extremely hard on this musical,” said Jakes, “and we feel certain that people’s hearts will be uplifted and encouraged by these beautiful songs of praise to God and appreciation for America.”

A complimentary indoor hot dog picnic with all the fixings will follow the musical. Everyone is invited.
