Schnell: SCHOA not necessary

Posted

With the Sun City Home Owners Association reporting less than 22% of residents are members, leaving over 78% choosing not to be micromanaged in their golden years. Why is that less than 22% trying to make decisions for 100% of residents?

They say to protect the age overlay, but they are involved in politics, reducing utilities bills, etc. and that is not what they are tasked to do. Why are we not voting to dissolve the SCHOA? The CC&Rs are still in play, where Karens and Richards are driving around pointing fingers to only a select few that they choose to target? Enforcement would fall to the county. Many HOAs after many years do age out and expire.

In today’s progressive world, protecting the age overlay may not even be legal and maybe they could lobby the governor with a stroke of a pen and declare this an age-restricted space. Then they become a political action committee with an agenda of their own, which I believe they already have. The SCHOA is getting involved in so many things, making money on selling ad space to vendors and selling merchandise. They are over-reaching what their intended task was, to maintain the CC&Rs and protect property values.

They do need to be updated. They are not keeping up with modern living. The CC&Rs are 26 years old. Why are only the less than 22% making those decisions instead of all the residents? Dissolve SCHOA and let the county use their resources to enforce the CC&Rs. The HOA has said itself they are never going to be up-to-date as they will always need changing. They probably spend more in attorney fees than anything else. With so much division today, you will never please everyone. Too much turnover in an HOA board with an agenda. County rules stay in place and those too sometimes need updating as well.
