Marie, 92, formerly of Sun City died in Westfield, MA with her family by her side on Sunday, June 23, 2024.
Marie was born in Prussberg, Germany. She was the daughter of Konrad and Katharina Stahl and was the second oldest of 8 girls and 1 boy. She was predeceased by her parents and sisters Paula, Beata, & Margareta and infant brother Otto all of Germany. She emigrated to the United States in 1953 and settled in Westfield, MA with her 1st husband Leonard. She attended night school where she quickly learned to read and write the English language, and then she attained her US Citizenship in 1958 all while taking care of her family and working outside of the home. She was widowed in 1974 and remarried in 1986 to Emerson (Batch) Batchelder and then retired and moved to Sun City, AZ where her full-time job was playing golf, bowling, walking laps in the pool at both Fairway and Mt. View recreation centers, traveling and spending a lot of time making wonderful new friends at the Elks, American Legion and the Moose. She was widowed in 2006 but remained in AZ until 2021 when for health reasons she moved back to MA where she resided with her daughter Barbara Fedora & son-in-law Dan who were her primary caretakers. She was a very hard-working lady who was well liked and admired by everyone who knew her. She will be remembered for her vibrant personality, beautiful smile, and unconditional and unquestioning love of life. She is survived by her sisters, Anna, Emma, Hildegard all from Germany and Ida from Indiana. She is also survived by her two daughters, Sonja Chenier and Barbara Fedora, along with her husband Daniel Fedora, all of Westfield; two loving grandchildren, Lisa Lansing and her husband David of Huntington, MA, and Daniel Fedora Jr. and his wife Erin Kenney of New Hartford, CT; and two loving great-grandchildren Shawn Lansing and Allister Fedora, whom she absolutely adored. She will be buried at Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam, with a celebration of life to be announced at a later date.
