Graham: SCHOA essential to Sun City quality of life

Posted

With all due respect, I must take issue with the views expressed by Ann Schnell in the Aug. 21 edition of the Sun City Independent.

Rather than being unnecessary, SCHOA is essential. Rather than micromanage the golden years of residents of Sun City, SCHOA and RCSC  together ensure that we have a great community of 55+ residents with clean, well-kept homes, streets free of trash and cars parked haphazardly everywhere, low taxes and quiet neighborhoods because of our 55+ overlay, beautifully maintained and very complete recreation centers, numerous clubs and activities from which to choose and high-quality entertainment provided at no charge to residents of Sun City.

Human nature being what it is, without SCHOA and RCSC, Sun City would deteriorate rapidly, and most of our current residents would be forced to leave. I would be among the first.

If SCHOA had its way, its membership would include every resident. However, unlike RCSC, membership in SCHOA is voluntary. The dues are very affordable: $25/year for those who live in single-family homes. Condo COAs are structured differently but still must adhere to the CC&Rs.

I encourage every resident to join and participate actively, making Sun City even better than the great community it already is.
