Phyllis Smart

Posted

Phyllis Smart, 95, of Fountain Hills drew her first breath on April 13, 1921 and her last breath on Jan. 31, 2017. She was reunited with her husband of 65 years, John G. Smart, Four Sibling and her parents, Charles and Edna Hammon.

Phyllis was born in Lynch, Neb. where she loved hunting pheasants and quail. As a WAVE during WWII she was gunnery instructor. She later was employed and retired as an administrative at Arizona State University.

Phyllis loved to camp, hike, play bridge, travel and ride horseback, which she later introduced to her granddaughter. She was also a talented watercolorist.

Phyllis was a gentle and good soul, who never uttered an ill word of anyone. She was loved by all.

She is survived by her son, John (Linda); daughter, Janel Becker; granddaughter, Rebecca Smart (the crown jewel of her life); sisters, Helen Baugh and Janet Henson and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at Messinger Fountain Hills Mortuary on Monday, Feb. 20, at 11 a.m. Interment at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery, San Diego, Calif. to follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donation in Phyllis’ name to a charity of their choice.
