Edwin, 93, of Dover, Ohio passed away on June 30, 2024 following a short illness.
Born on June 3, 1931 in Clinton, Iowa, Ed was raised in Davenport, Iowa, graduated high school in 1950 and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. Stationed at Wright-Patterson AFB in Dayton, Ohio, he met a pretty young lady on a blind date named Mary Williams. They were married on June 30, 1951 and in September he was deployed to Libya, North Africa. Ed and Mary lived at Travis AFB in California prior to returning to Davenport, where he worked as a firefighter for 10 years with the Davenport Fire Department. Ed moved his family in 1964 to Arizona, worked for the Glendale Fire Department for 10 years, and retired from the City of Glendale Human Resources Department in 1985. After living in Sedona, Arizona for a few years, Ed volunteered with the Sun City Fire Department as a Code Enforcement Inspector, then Board member, eventually serving as Chairman until 2013.
Mr. George was preceded in death by his wife Mary; parents Alfred and Marie George of El Paso, Texas and his sister Marilou Moorhead also of El Paso. Survived by his daughters Teri Merchant of Dover, Ohio and Lori (Dennis) Snyder of New Philadelphia, Ohio; two grandchildren Travis Milton of Warren, Ohio and Tori Milton of Midvale, Ohio and six great grandchildren.
A private memorial and interment at Plainfield Cemetery, Plainfield, Ohio will be held at a later date.
