The Mesa-based United Food Bank is holding a volunteer day Sept. 28 where families will package food bags to be distributed to families in need across the Valley.

According to a press release, this volunteer event is part of United Food Bank’s Family Action Month initiative, which aims to get local communities involved in the nationwide Hunger Action Month campaign during the month of September.

During the event, which is open to families and kids of all ages, volunteers will package emergency food bags that include nonperishable food items. The packaged food will be distributed by United Food Bank to the nonprofit’s more than 120 agency partners in the East Valley and eastern Arizona.

“In Arizona, nearly one million people suffer from food insecurity and unfortunately, that number continues to grow across the state,” said Jason Reed, CEO of United Food Bank. “We are excited to once again host Family Action Month in hopes of raising awareness and providing education to food insecurity and hunger in our communities. We hope Arizona families will join the movement to end hunger today.”

The event is 9-11 a.m. Sept. 28 at United Food Bank on 358 E. Javelina Ave. in Mesa. To sign up to volunteer, click this link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdx-suNLzpKsmbGNiuPMNCjavuC65tcCKFeFBkKygwyvnKgcw/viewform
