East Valley Children’s Theatre is opening its 2024-25 season with “Sleepy Hollow, The Musical” running Sept. 19-29 at Mesa Arts Center, where EVCT is a founding resident company.

“With captivating plot twists and compelling songs, this musical is not the everyday rendition of the classic tale of Sleepy Hollow, making it the perfect production to kick off EVCT’s 28th season,” according to a release. “With the book by Vera Morris and music and lyrics by Bill Francoeur, this musical promises a powerful theatrical experience for people of all ages.”

EVCT’s Aaron Blanco is directing the production and working with a cast of youth to bring the show to life. Blanco’s unique Día De Los Muertos concept connects this traditional American ghost story to our southwestern community.

This show is like no other,” said Lisa Olson, president of EVCT’s board of directors. “Our cast and crew have been working so hard to make this a can’t-miss production.”

Tickets are $21 and can be purchased in person at the Mesa Arts Center, 1 E. Main St., or online at evct.org. Performances are at 7 p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays, 4 p.m. and 7 p.m on Saturdays and 2 p.m. on Sundays.

The family-friendly show is great for all ages but may frighten young audience members sensitive to loud noises and special effects.

In “Sleepy Hollow, The Musical, Ichabod Crane, a young gentleman, moves to the small farming community of Sleepy Hollow to become the new schoolmaster. He brings with him all his worldly possessions as he seeks a well-to-do wife. He’s sure his dream will come true when he spots the striking Katrina Van Tassel.
