Mexican baseball teams arrive for Camelback Ranch-Glendale fiesta

Posted

Camelback Ranch-Glendale hosts the 12th annual Mexican Baseball Fiesta for the first time the weekend  of Sept. 27-29.

The Mexican Baseball Fiesta features games between teams from the Liga Arco Mexicana del Pacifico (Mexican Winter League), the top professional baseball league in Mexico. Most of the players are affiliated with Major League Baseball clubs.

This fiesta is a version of spring training and a way for Mexican-Americans to connect with their heritage and celebrate baseball in Mexico. Pageantry includes a home run derby, performances by team mascots, Mexican bands and singers (La Brissa, Tropicalisimo Apache), Mexican dance companies and Mexican ballpark food.

“We can’t wait for this year’s Fiesta in the Valley. The addition of Camelback Ranch is exciting news! Constant excitement is the best way to describe the Mexican Baseball Fiesta. The passion of the fans, the music, the food, and the fun make this a unique experience for all baseball fans,” Mike Feder, president of the Mexican Baseball Fiesta, stated in a press release.

The Mexican Baseball Fiesta was founded in 2011 by a group of Mexican baseball fans who wanted to create an event that would celebrate the sport and its culture. It started in Tucson and has since grown to include stops in Las Vegas, Mesa and Phoenix.

Aguilas de Mexicali, Mayos de Navojoa, Naranjeros de Hermosillo and Yaquis de Obregon are playing. There will be two games daily at Camelback Ranch:

  • Friday, Sept. 27 — 5:05 p.m. and approximately 45 minutes after the first game.
  • Saturday, Sept. 28 — 5:05 p.m. and approximately 45 minutes after the first game.
  • Sunday, Sept. 29 — 2:05 p.m. and approximately 45 min after the first game

All games will be seven innings.

Each day’s festivities will be capped with live musical performances.

Tickets go on sale online on Wednesday, Sept. 4 at 10 a.m. Each day will be single admission for both games and festivities.

Lower box seats are $30, upper box seats are $25 and general admission $20. All prices are for one day of games and festivities.
