Florence council fills board, commission vacancies

The Florence Town Council appointed several residents to town boards and commissions during its Monday meeting.

Due to her appointment to the town council in May, Councilmember Cathy Adam left vacancies on the Board of Appeals and the Planning and Zoning Commission.

Lonnie Frost, chair of the Planning and Zoning Commission, will take the seat on the Board of Appeals left vacant by Adam. His term is set to expire on Dec. 31.

“The town of Florence having a full board is important so that people who feel like the town has not correctly interpreted the codes can file a request to go through the Board of Appeals,” a council staff report stated.

Jeffrey Wooley was next appointed to the Planning and Zoning Commission with a term to expire on Dec. 31, 2025. Donald Allen was appointed as an alternate to the commission with a term to expire on Dec. 31, 2025.

Gilbert Olgin was appointed to the Historic District Advisory Commission with a term to expire Dec. 31, 2025. Ginia Cathemer and Azure Sullivan were also appointed to the commission with their terms set to expire Dec. 31, 2026.

Two teens were appointed to the Florence Teen Council. Xavier Fedor’s term will expire Oct. 1, and Madison Heimann’s term expires Oct. 1, 2025.

The council also appointed Adian Rankin as Youth Liaison to the Community Services Advisory Board with a term set to expire Dec. 31, 2025.

Rankin’s was appointed on the recommendation of the town liaisons to the teen council.

“His dedication to civic engagement and community service is evident, and his participation promises to bring fresh insights and energetic representation of the town's younger residents,” a staff report stated.
