Silk flower club continues to meet in Sun City West
The Creative Silk Flower Club meets 8-11:30 a.m. Wednesdays in Kuentz room 5. Annual membership dues are $5. An initial $35 covers the cost of supplies and classes to teach four different flowers. Classes are thereafter available to learn additional flowers. Quarterly meetings are held followed by luncheons and games. [Submitted photo]
As one of the original Sun City West clubs since 1980, the Creative Silk Flower Club continues to showcase an array of talent, inspiration and creativity by its members.
Flowers are made from scratch beginning with the material: silk, ribbon and even coffee filters. The procedure involves selecting a pattern, tracing the pattern on the fabric, cutting out the petals, dying the petals, and attaching wires to hold the petals in place. The stem is then covered with floral tape. Some flowers require a tooling iron to make indentations in the petals to create a more realistic look.
