JP RACE: Responding to recent commentary

In the July 11, 2018 edition of the Daily-News-Sun, Ms. Diana Foti wrote an opinion praising Phillip Woolbright who is running for the Arrowhead Justice Court. I agree with Ms. Foti that “we need honest people in government.” And that is what we have with Judge Wismer in his current capacity as Judge at the Arrowhead Justice Court.

Ms. Foti notes that she is Director of the Judicial Watch Group of Associates in Peoria. Which leads one to believe she actually lives in Peoria. That is not the case. Ms. Foti actually resides in Lake Havasu City and is in fact Mr. Woolbright’s sister. Another writer, Mr. Winkler, noted that Mr. Woolbright was not afraid to “get his hands dirty.” Yes, the facts would certainly back up that perception. Possibly with a different bent, however.

Look, I am sure to longtime friends and certain relatives of Mr. Woolbright, he could be seen as being able to deliver equal justice under the law, would make a great judge, is honest and fair. However, the facts prove differently. In 2012, Mr. Woolbright was removed from his position as Judge of the Arrowhead Justice Court by the Arizona Supreme Court, upholding the recommendation by the Arizona Commission on Judicial Conduct, which cited 20 separate “Findings of Fact” that resulted in his dismissal from the bench. Mr, Woolbright was subsequently banned from performing judicial functions for a minimum of five years.

Craig Wismer was first elected to the court in 2012 to replace Mr. Woolbright who had been removed from his seat by the Arizona Supreme Court earlier in the year. Justice Wismer has established a reputation for being fair and approachable.

Judge Wismer has also proven to be of high integrity and professionalism. Exactly what we need in this court. The facts are the facts.

Mark Craig Wismer’s name on your list to vote for in the upcoming primary on August 18.
