Having secured one more first in program history, this year’s Millennium team is ready to play for first place.

No. 6 seed Millennium will play in the 5A championship  at 7:30 p.m. tonight against No. 5 Gilbert Campo Verde at Coronado High School, 7501 E. Virginia Ave., Scottsdale.

The Tigers continued on their historic season by winning their first state semifinal appearance, knocking off Queen Creek Casteel 1-0 on Feb. 16 at Coronado.

Anacel Valenzuela-Acosta intercepted a backward pass from a Casteel defender to send her off to a one-on-one opportunity with the Colts’ goalkeeper.

Valenzuela-Acosta scored the unassisted goal in the second half to propel her team to the finals.
