The volunteers with the Sun City West PRIDES will soon expand their efforts beyond the community roadways.

Ralph Johnson, PRIDES president, said the volunteers will again start gleaning fruit from approximately 170 trees in the community, coordinating their efforts through the Shepherd of the Hills United Methodist Church, 13658 W Meeker Blvd.  The fruit will be donated to the St. Mary’s Food Bank.

The gleaning will begin Wednesday,  Jan. 23, and will continue until early March, Mr. Johnson said.

“Last year, we gathered enough fruit to make 8,000 gallons of grapefruit juice,” he added.

The PRIDES is an all-volunteer organization that goes into the main roadways of Sun City West to clean debris and prune vegetation. Volunteers work both in the medians and the roadside areas.
