According to Jim Fox, fire marshal for the Sun City Fire & Medical Department, a responding ladder unit reported the 73-year-old driver of a Grand Jeep Cherokee collided with a larger pick-up truck.

Medical personnel treated the driver and passenger of the truck at the scene. Mr. Fox said the 73-year-old was alive when the medical unit transported him to the hospital. However, doctors worked on him for about 15 minutes before he died.

The Maricopa County Department of Transportation tweeted out the intersection’s reopening at about 1:40 a.m. Feb. 9.
