Peoria man drowns in Gila County over weekend

A Peoria man is dead after he drowned at Fossil Creek Sunday, according to the Gila County Sheriff’s Office.

On Oct. 8 at about 12 p.m., the Gila County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call regarding an individual that had drown in the Fossil Creek “Toilet Bowl” swimming hole.

Deputies, along with Tonto Rim Search and Rescue, Pine-Strawberry Fire District, an Arizona Department of Public Safety Ranger, and the Gila County Dive Team, responded and recovered a male subject.

Officials identified the man found as Marvin McClain, 57 of Peoria.

This is an active investigation and further information will be released as it becomes available.
