The family of a man shot and killed outside a sports bar in Surprise is raising funds to bring his body to Colorado.
A GoFundMe account for Anthony Kenny has raised more than $2,000 as of Friday morning.
Mr. Kenny was identified as the victim in a shooting outside Tailgaters & IL Primo Surprise near Bell and Reems roads Wednesday night.
In a statement from the Surprise Police Department, officers arrived on scene to find several people restraining the suspect, Troy Ryland Paille.
In court documents released to the Daily News-Sun Friday morning, Mr. Paille stated to police he had been planning for months to harm Mr. Kenny.
The suspect told police he was walking in to the bar when he saw a friend in the parking lot. He then saw Mr. Kenny and a woman on the patio.
Mr. Paille reportedly planned to talk with Mr. Kenny and make him think they were reconciling.
However, after talking and apparently hugging with Mr. Paille, Mr. Kenny turned to re-enter the bar when Mr. Paille allegedly shot him three or four times, records state.
The woman told police she was Mr. Kenny’s girlfriend and the ex-girlfriend of Mr. Paille. She said the two men appeared to be non-aggressive during their encounter before the shooting occurred.
Mr. Paille is in jail in lieu of a $1 million cash-only bond.
The GoFundMe for Mr. Kenny states “he will be remembered as a gentle soul with an easy going spirit. Someone that could make you laugh, even when he was down. A loving man, with friends in all places.”
