MCSO deems threat towards Thomas Heck Middle School a hoax

Sheriff’s deputies have determined a threat towards a middle school in Litchfield Park was a hoax.

The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office Tuesday afternoon said it was investigating the reported threat after it circulated on social media since sometime Monday.

The school in question was Thomas Heck Middle School, 12448 W. Bethany Home Road.

The reported threat said it would take place Tuesday. However, MCSO’s Threats Management Unit and District II detectives deemed the threat a hoax.

“Students and their parents must remember that their actions do have consequences and that in 2019 these kinds of ‘jokes’ have no place in our community,” a release states.

MCSO has had both uniformed and non-uniformed detectives at the school as a precaution.

The school principal sent a letter to parents Tuesday afternoon, assuring parents that no students or staff were in danger. The Litchfield Elementary School District first learned of the threat Monday night.

No arrests have been made as of Tuesday afternoon.
