Plato’s Closet to open doors in Surprise

Teen, young adult resale store has 2nd location in Valley

Plato’s Closet, a teen and young adult retail resale concept, has announced the grand opening of its location in Surprise.

It’s located within the Village at Prasada shopping center at 13276 N. Prasada Parkway.

The brand is known for its affordable, gently used clothing, shoes, accessories and more, which provides local teens and 20-somethings with a store that not only puts cash back into their pockets, but sells gently used brand name items for less.

With a focus on being a sustainable shopping resource, the new Plato’s Closet in Surprise opens on July 25. Plato’s Closet is part of Winmark - the Resale Company, a unique national retail resale franchise that focuses on sustainability and small business formation.

Plato’s Closet Surprise is owned and operated by local entrepreneurs, Chris Ray, Brian Kirby and Mike Leonard. The trio also owns another Plato’s Closet in Gilbert, which opened in 2019.

Ray has worked with Winmark for 18 years as their national real estate broker. With 22 years of experience in commercial real estate, Ray, along with Leonard’s 24 years of expertise in the same field, formed a solid foundation for their business ventures.

Kirby, who has an MBA and previous experience running a fitness concept, as well as teaching tennis after playing on the men’s tennis team while attending Grand Canyon University, adds a unique perspective to the team. Together, they bring a wealth of knowledge and business experience to their Plato’s Closet locations.

Beginning July 25 and throughout the weekend, the trio are inviting guests to stop into Plato’s Closet in Surprise to experience the following:

Thursday, July 25 – 20 gift bags for first 20 customers, Twisted Sugar cookie and drink stand, $10 Plato’s Closet cash for first 50 customers.

Friday, July 26 – Ulta bag giveaway ($50 value) and Double Five Star Points All Day.

Saturday, July 27 – $100 Gift card raffle and Bounce Back Coupon for Spending over $100.

Sunday, July 28 – Movie Bag giveaway ($50 Value) and Shopping Spree Raffle .

Ray, Kirby, and Leonard will bring Surprise residents a sustainable shopping option that provides a variety of styles for teens and young adults.

“Plato’s Closet fills a distinct niche in the retail market,” Ray said. “We are a part of a unique retail resale business that specializes in the teen and young adult market segment. We don’t try to create new fashion trends, we respond to actual trends in a timely and value-oriented manner.”

Winmark’s resale concepts allow for gently used clothing and accessories to end up in someone else’s closet rather than thrown into a landfill, providing a resource for shoppers who are looking to update their closets in a mindful environmental manner.

Unlike a typical consignment store, no appointment is necessary to sell clothing and accessories to Plato’s Closet. Customers can achieve savings up to 70% off trendy, brand name clothing and accessories and receive cash on the spot for gently used items that are outgrown or no longer wanted.
