Copeland: Why we should redefine the term ‘abortion’

Posted

I am concerned because it seems like we need to redefine our terms relating to the word  “abortion."

Abortion should not apply to the medical procedure of removing a dead child from a woman’s body (such as a miscarriage). Doctors should not be faced with losing their medical license for performing this life-saving procedure.

The term “abortion” should only apply to the medical removal of a living, viable, unborn child, especially if it is done for convenience because the mother does not want to carry or care for it. Many women, who cannot get pregnant naturally, would love to adopt these unwanted children.

I can’t help but wonder if Mary, the mother of Jesus, was pregnant today, could she have chosen to abort baby Jesus, because she was an unwed mother.

Do we still value God’s gifts of children? How many “great” people have already been lost to abortion?
