Who’s Who in the Camera Guild: Regina Wyman

Posted

Regina Wyman was born and raised in southern California. She is the daughter of a Polish immigrant who lost his entire family to the Hitler regime and was able to escape the holocaust and come to America. He met Wyman’s mother, who was from New York, in California where they settled and built a family furniture business.

Wyman lost her father when she was 13-years-old and became a strong influence to her only sibling brother who became a dentist and now lives in Alaska. Upon graduating from high school, she attended California State University in Northridge. During her senior year she took a photography class, which taught the basics of photography and how to develop black and white film. This was the beginning of her love of capturing images.

After graduating from CSUN, Wyman moved to Hawaii to become part of the travel industry, specifically the area of tourism. She began working in a upscale restaurant taking photos of the patrons who ate there. This required her to use a bulky heavy camera that used two panels on either side that slid in and out for the exposure. She would photograph the patron while dining and develop the film and have it ready for them to purchase when they were leaving, another step toward her interest in photography.

Wyman became a tour director in Hawaii for eight years and traveled the islands taking her own personal photographs. After this time she returned to southern California where she was a sales representative in the travel business and various airlines. During this time she traveled the world going to Europe, Egypt, Israel, Spain Italy, Greece, Brazil and also doing Fitness Cruises through the Caribbean. Needless to say, she has taken some glorious photos.

The last 15 years of Wyman’s career were involved in the senior living area where she worked as a marketing director. During this time, she was the photographer at the communities she was involved with due to her talent in this area. She moved to Sun City three years ago due to some good counseling from her financial advisor who told her, “If you stay in Playa del Rey, California you will need to keep working, if you move to Sun City, you can retire.”

Wyman loves Sun City and is involved in the dog clubs, Camera Guild, line dancing, Saddle Club and just took up pickle ball. She loves the Camera Guild with all the education classes and helpful members and is learning more about the technique of photography, which will come in handy on her up coming safari to Africa.
