Who’s Who in the Camera Guild: Jody Cline

Posted

Jody Cline was born in Pittsburgh and at the age of three months, her family moved to Southern California.  She grew up in La Habra and graduated from California State University, Fullerton.

After college, Cline worked for IBM for 12 years as a systems engineer then unit manager. Following IBM, she worked for Lane Council of Governments in Eugene, Oregon as information technology program manager and then as senior and disability services division director for 24 years until she retired in 2019.

Cline and her husband Barry were married in 1985, raised five children and they now have six grandchildren.

Cline’s mother, aunt and cousin were all artists and she followed the family tradition of being involved in art over the years as well. She enjoyed various kinds of art including fiber arts, colored pencil drawing and painting. When Jody and Barry started scuba diving in 2007, she was Barry’s “spotter” and didn’t begin taking photos of her own until attending a photo workshop in Anilao, Philippines in 2016. She is interested in creative photography, exploring the elements of composition and creating images that capture and communicate a mood. To do this she has chosen an underwater Canon camera. In order to continue photography during the pandemic, Cline expanded to using an Olympus camera and photographing on land.

In June of 2021, Barry and Jody relocated from Eugene, Oregon to Sun City. In Sun City, Cline enjoys Pickleball, water volleyball, the Concert Band (flute), drawing and watercolor art classes, swimming and being part of the Camera Guild.

In the future, Cline is interested in integrating art with photography by using Photoshop to meld her drawings and paintings with her photos.
