Surprise needs volunteers to aid food bank


The Surprise Human Service and Community Vitality Department is looking for volunteers for its day of service events on Wednesday, July 20.

Volunteers will assist with sorting bulk food items, creating food baskets and loading food into vehicles, helping in the process of providing food for families in need.

Individuals and groups can register with Larry Garcia at or 623-222-1522.

Groups are asked to submit a group name and estimated number of volunteers — limited to no more than 10 people.

St. Mary’s Food Bank is at 13050 W. Elm St., in Surprise. There are two shifts to choose from, 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. or 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

For those who are interested but unavailable, upcoming day of service opportunities are:
