Sun City’s newly-formed mixed chorus, Sun City Sings!, announces the appointment of Roy Spicer as its new artistic director.
A native Californian and musician from a young age, Spicer earned a degree in organ performance and choral conducting from California State University, Northridge and University of Redlands. He has more than 30 years of experience as a vocalist, organist, pianist, conductor and performer in the United States and Europe, including parts of Ireland and Italy. Notably he was conductor and organist at St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome.
Spicer has also been involved in community theater, as a performer and music director in various productions. Most recently, he was appointed as director of sacred music for St. Clement of Rome Catholic Church in Sun City.
Spicer is eager to embark on this new journey with Sun City residents and their guests, blending the talents of the Women’s Chorus and Players Community Theater with fresh voices.
“I believe this venture is a much-needed reorganization of choral music and I’m most happy to be part of this group, bringing our stories and talent together through the power of song. I am energized to blend a vibrant and inclusive musical community where everyone can share their love of singing,” he said.
Sun City Sings! will kick off fall rehearsals Oct. 15, meeting 9-11 a.m. Tuesdays at American Lutheran Church, 17200 N. Del Webb Blvd. Singers of all voice parts are welcome; especially encouraged are tenors and basses. No auditions are required though the ability to read music is preferred.
