Peggy Juneau and Kelly Abraham are teaming up for an upcoming exhibit of their works at El Dorado of Sun City, 10330 W. Thunderbird Blvd. Juneau and Abraham are award-winning, longtime members of Palo Verde Artists of Sun City and both artists are also members of Artists by the Lake in Sun City.
Juneau is a member of the Blackfeet Tribe on her father’s side. Her mother is San Carlos Apache. She specializes in Native-themed art and mixed media pieces and especially enjoys making art from found or repurposed items and mixing these objects with things found in nature. One of her creations features hubcaps juxtaposed against cholla branches.
Her goal is to challenge the viewer and help convey her personal, traditional and contemporary Native ideas. Juneau also creates collage, which she feels is not just pasting pictures and things on canvas but is another way of expressing her creativity. She will also be exhibiting three recycled art pieces in April at WHAM’s gallery, 16560 Dysart Road, in Surprise.
Abraham is a life-long artist who earned her teaching degree from the University of Wisconsin Stout and taught art in Wisconsin and Minnesota public schools. She has also taught workshops in abstract painting for Palo Verde Artists. Cats are a favorite subject and the exhibit will include those as well as a few other stylized animals. Imagination and bold colors are elements of her distinctive style.
The public is invited to a reception to mark the opening of their exhibit 3:30-4:30 p.m. Thursday, April 4. The exhibit runs through the end of June.
