Dick Feil is SilverStonesfeatured artist
Posted
The latest featured artist of the Sundial Community Center’s SilverStones Club is long-time member Dick Feil.
Originally from Kenosha, Wisconsin, Feil has been in Sun City for 15 years and a Silverstone’s member for seven years, and for many of those years he served as the club president. He stays busy, with golf, exercise and swimming when he is not pursuing his artistic interests which include lapidary, lost wax/metal casting, silversmithing and chaining.
Feil took several classes at Sundial to enrich his talents, including a glass fusion class and a lapidary class. He added that he learned chaining and silversmithing from many of the talented artists at the club.
When asked about the types of creations he likes the most, Feil mentioned bracelets, necklaces and pendants. He stated that his favorite is “chain bracelets because it’s very relaxing work.” His response to a query about sources for inspiration was an all-inclusive “from people, places and things.” A man of few words, when Feil was asked how his creative hobby makes him feel he simply stated, “relaxed.” For a second question about what he gets personally from a finished piece, he supplied an equally concise response, “pride.”
View samples of Feil’s work at the Sundial Recreation Center. The SilverStones Club is open 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Take classes in lapidary, silver work, lost wax casting, fused glass, chaining and wire wrap. The club also has its own store, full of creations that are perfect gifts at great prices for all occasions.
Membership in the SilverStones club costs $15 a year. If needed, lockers are available for $3 each and the club provides members with the opportunity to take classes for as little as $10 to $50, plus any cost of materials at club cost. Tools and equipment are provided by the club. Call 317-508-5959.
