Tempe sets aside ‘parking corrals’ for e-scooters
(City of Tempe)
New parking corrals will allow Tempe to continue to offer shared micro-mobility devices as an alternative transportation mode, while maintaining sidewalk and ADA access, city officials said in a release.

Areas are being set aside in the downtown Tempe area where shared vehicles such as e-scooters can be parked.
The parking corrals for shared active transportation vehicles are geofenced by the scooter companies, city officials said in a release. Geofencing creates a virtual boundary by means of GPS or other technologies that allows software to determine when a vehicle enters or leaves an area.
The new corrals will allow Tempe to continue to offer shared micro-mobility devices as an alternative transportation mode, while maintaining sidewalk and ADA access, the release stated.
Tempe aimed to install 41 parking corrals in the downtown area, from University Drive to Rio Salado Parkway and Farmer to College avenues prior to the start of fall classes at Arizona State University.
Corrals have been placed about every quarter-mile, officials said.
While an SATV license does require companies to restage devices in an orderly manner every 24 hours, riders do not have any parking requirements.
If a scooter is blocking sidewalk access or poses a safety concern, contact Tempe 311 or the companies directly:
“The parking corrals are aligned with the Tempe City Council’s priority to create a 20-minute city, where residents can walk, bike or take transit to meet all daily, non-work needs,” the city release stated.
