Phoenix police responded Monday to a shooting on West Sunland Avenue that left a man dead and woman injured.
The shooting near 1300 West Sunland Avenue occurred at about 12:50 a.m. Oct. 14, and officers found two victims with gunshot wounds, according to a Phoenix Police Department release.
A 29-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene, and a 32-year-old woman was taken to a hospital where authorities said she is recovering from non-life-threatening injuries.
Preliminary information gathered by homicide investigators suggest the man was in a confrontation outside of his apartment that escalated into the shooting, the release stated.
During the shooting, both victims were struck by gunfire. Several residences in the area also were hit, police said.
