A man was shot and died Sunday in the front yard of a home near 7300 South 31st Drive, Phoenix police said.

Officers responded to the home about 4:30 a.m. Oct. 13 and found Gabriel Gillespie, 26, with at least one gunshot wound.

Witnesses stated the shooting stemmed from a party at a rental house near the scene of Gillespie’s death, according to a release from the Phoenix Police Department.

Preliminary information indicates there were two different shooting scenes, and evidence “confirmed two suspects were shooting at each other.

“It is unknown if Gabriel was the intended target or was caught in the crossfire,” the release stated.

One suspect has been identified as 19-year-old Kason Nelson. He was booked for weapons violations and unlawful discharge of a firearm.

The investigation is continuing.
