Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly is reported to be among three finalists for the vice president spot for Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris.
Kelly, who was first elected to serve the remainder of Sen. John McCain's term in 2020 and then elected to a six-year term in 2020, is in the running along with Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, according to a report from Bloomberg.
All three men are seen as being able to help with either a battleground state or region. Kelly, a former U.S. Navy fighter pilot and NASA astronaut, could help Harris better her standing in Arizona, where she trails former President Donald Trump by about 5.5 points, according to various polls.
While Harris is leading Trump in Minnesota polls, Walz could benefit the campaign in neighboring Wisconsin and Michigan. Shapiro could provide a boost in Pennsylvania. Whoever wins the upper Midwest states has the inside track to the White House.
Selection is slated to occur by Aug. 7, according to Bloomberg.
