Police arrest man linked to Scottsdale murder
Posted
The Scottsdale Police Department has made an arrest in the homicide investigation of victim Scott Harkness, officials say.
John Merryman, 38, was arrested without incident at his home in north Phoenix on Feb. 11, police say.
Scottsdale detectives began their investigation in the early hours of Feb. 6, after Harkness was found shot on the side of the road near Hayden and Camelback roads, police say. Harkness was transported to a local hospital, but did not survive his injuries.
During the initial investigation, detectives reportedly located a weapon near the crime scene that was forensically linked to Harkness’ injuries and forensically linked to Merryman, officials say.
Confirmation linking the weapon to Merryman was received by police on Feb. 10, officials say.
In the early morning hours of Feb. 11, detectives and Scottsdale Police SWAT team served a search warrant at the suspect’s residence. Merryman was arrested without incident, officials say. He was expected to be booked into the Maricopa County Fourth Avenue jail on one count of first-degree murder.
