A 24-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a fatal crash on Saturday near 16th Street and Camelback Road, Phoenix police said.
Travis Smith contacted authorities Sept. 22 and stated he was the driver involved in the collision, “and he admitted to running from the scene,” according to a Phoenix Police Department release. He was taken to a hospital as he had injuries from the crash, police said, adding he was booked into jail after being medically cleared.
The crash occurred about 12:30 a.m. Sept. 21. When officers arrived they found Dillon Mares, 29, with serious injuries. Phoenix Fire Department personnel attempted life-saving measure, but Mares died at the scene, police said.
Smith faces several charges, including manslaughter and leaving the scene of a collision resulting in death or a serious injury, police said.
