Man arrested in Mesa

The Pinal County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man in Mesa as the second suspect in the Nov. 18 aggravated assault of a 16-year-old boy in San Tan Valley, authorities said.

Garrett Bagshaw, 18, was arrested Jan. 12, and the PCSO stated it is continuing its investigation to identify additional suspects.

Jacob Pennington, 20, of Gilbert was arrested earlier in the assault, officials said.

On Nov. 18, sheriff’s deputies responded to an “altercation” in the desert area off North Wagon Wheel Road and West Sun Dance Drive in San Tan Valley.

PCSO stated that the victim sustained minor injuries and declined medical treatment. In addition, the victim was not immediately able to identify his attackers. Video of the assault was later posted on social media.

The video showed the victim surrounded by a group of males. The victim was punched in the face and as he tried to retreat, another man could be seen running after him.
